Save That Tooth!
A tooth that has been knocked out or avulsed is one of the most
serious of dental
emergencies.It is critical to get the tooth back in the socket as
soon as possible. You have about thirty minutes to have a good chance
of the tooth healing and not being lost. Here are
the inportant points to remember.
- Put the tooth either in an isotonic solution such as milk or hold it in your mouth where the the saliva (also an isotonic solution) can keep it warm and moist.
- Don't try to clean the tooth, even if it is dirty. The less you do the better.
- Get to a dentist or emergency room as quickly as you can.
Teeth that are knocked out lose there blood supply and generally are treated with root canals at a later date. There is always the risk of the tooth being lost on down the road as well, but many teeth are retained so remember these tips.
